Kinvara Community Radio

Our community radio station, Kinvara FM has just completed our first thirty day licence period with successful live broadcasts on Saturdays and Sundays between 12 noon and 8pm.  We are currently applying for the next licence for seventy days of broadcasting but in the meantime you will be able to continue listening to Kinvara FM on 92.4 over the internet and pre-recorded programmes and podcasts will continue to be available.

We are grateful to all those of you in the local community that are tuning in to listen to the programmes, we are at an early stage in our development and we welcome your feedback, complementary or critical, it will all go towards helping us to establish a community radio station that cares about the quality of our programmes as well as being inclusive in our reach.

We held our first annual general meeting in late October and one of the important items discussed was the need for the station to have a stable source of funding. The station has been set up as a registered cooperative and membership is open to all in the community and costs twenty euro each year. This enables you to have a share in the station and entitles you to a vote at the AGM and to become involved in the running of the station. We hope to recruit 250 new members over the months ahead. We would really appreciate your support and ask that you would consider joining as a member. There is a great deal of work involved in setting up and sustaining a community radio station. We need people of all ages with all sorts of skills and backgrounds. So if you have a few hours and you are interested in joining and becoming involved in administration, fundraising, membership, technical or programme making, please send us an email at kinvarafm@gmail.com or contact Paul Tierney at 087 4186074. We will have a stand at the Christmas craft fair in the community centre on December 9/10 and 16/17 so come along and say hello.
