Gort Resource Centre

Are you one of our older members of the Gort Community? Do you suffer from loneliness? Would you love to be able to pick up the phone and chat to someone who understands what this is like? Did you know that for the price of a local call you can ring the Senior Help Line on 1850 440 444 and talk to someone of your own age group, and all in strictest confidence? All volunteers are fully trained, sensitive and caring, and there to help. You can phone between the hours of 10am and 8pm; 7 days a week.  If you would also like someone to visit you on a social once-a-week basis, the Gort Hand of Friendship is here to help too. Ring Gort Resource Centre for more information on 091 630902. We are also looking for volunteers who have an hour or so a week to spare.

Kinvara Community Defibrillator Project (KCDP)

Kinvara Community Defibrillator Project (KCDP) would like to thank all who contributed to the church gate collection on 25th September, which raised €650.25 in total. This will be used to maintain the five defibrillators managed by KCDP in our parish. KCDP aims to have a trained first responder in every household in our Community who will know what to do in an emergency while waiting for trained medical assistance. Courses in CPR and the use of automated external defibrillators are organised regularly. For further information on training, contact Richard Kilkelly on (087) 987 3707 or visit our Facebook page.

Kinvara Men’s Shed

Kinvara men’s shed held its inaugural meeting in September, which generated a hugely positive response from men of all ages. The biggest question asked on the night was – What is a Men’s Shed? A Men’s Shed is a place where all men, regardless of age, background, or ability: • Can comfortably use and pass on their practical skills and knowledge.
• Learn through doing stuff together – each man is a teacher and a learner, each having different levels  of skills, professional and practical, to share collectively.
• Can come together and help out in their communities.
• Can just come and have a chat and a cuppa if that is all they’re looking for.
• Can talk about things that are important to them, and can improve their own well-being by keeping physically, mentally and socially active.

We are actively looking for a premises in the village, if anyone owns, or knows of a shed (or old building/house) that could be suitable. Please contact us on 085 7565484.

We will be holding another meeting in October – please keep an eye out for posters or like our page on Facebook – Kinvara Men’s Shed.
