Following on the success of the previous Clean Up and the great numbers who turned up we are having a second Big Clean Up on this coming Saturday the 11th June. Please meet at the Community Centre at 11am and if you are late come and look for us. We will be doing a litter collection of the approach roads to Kinvara. All welcome.

As judging of the Tidy Towns competition is starting on 14th June we appeal to everyone to just keep the front of your own premises or house neat and tidy. Thank you.

The next meeting of Kinvara Community Council is on next Wednesday 15th June at 8.30pm in the Community Centre. Everyone living in the local area is welcome and encouraged to attend.

At the last meeting discussions on the future of the Green outside the Pier Head took place. Some people favoured recreating the green exactly as it was. Others suggested creating a single Green adjacent to the Quay with a single 2 way road where the existing separate roads are now. The business people present were keen to include a Car Parking area. Cllr Joe Byrne was present and said no final decision has been made and the present surface is temporary to facilitate the works on the Sewage pipe network. This matter will be discussed at next weeks meeting again so come along and make your opinion known.

Kinvara Community Newsletter March 2016

March 2016

The Community Council meet once a month and discuss matters of interest to the local community. At the meeting in February a suggestion was made that a ‘Tree of Hope’ would be researched for our area. The ‘Tree of Hope’ idea is that a tree is planted perhaps with a bench beside it to provide a place of comfort for people affected by suicide and depression. You can find out more about this project on the Tree of Hope Facebook page. We are asking everyone to send us suggestions of where a Tree might be planted in the Kinvara area. The next meeting will be held in the Community Centre on Wednesday the 16th March at 8.30pm. All members of the local community are welcome to attend.

The Tidy Towns group have been trying to find ways of dealing with the number of waste and recycling bags that are left out on the side of the road or the paths on the incorrect days. Barna Waste collect bags in Kinvara and the surrounding areas on alternate Wednesdays. Unfortunately people are leaving bags out on any day of the week from Sunday onwards. Putting your bags out more than 12 hours prior to collection leads to littering. Also please do not leave your bag outside someone else’s house.
Please do not leave out your bags any other day except Wednesday alternate weeks only.

Seamount College Kinvara, are delighted to have Celebrity Chef Neven Maguire and an Artisan Food Fair on Wednesday 9th March, in the Lady Gregory Hotel, Gort. Doors open from 6.30pm. (Demonstration at 8pm sharp). Tickets are available from the School office, contact 091 637362 or from the Parents Council.

‘Juno and the Paycock’ by Sean O’Casey will be staged in Ballinderreen Community Centre on Saturday March 12th at 8.00pm. One of the great plays of the twentieth century, Juno and the Paycock, offers a devastating portrait of wasted potential in a Dublin torn apart by the chaos of the Irish Civil War. Set in a tenement in 1922, the play tells the story of the Boyle family as they struggle against poverty and unemployment. Captain Boyle, also known as “the paycock” is a worthless idler who spends most of his time drinking and playing cards with his friend Joxer. His long-suffering wife, Juno struggles against all the odds to keep her family together. This performance is brought to you by Clann Machua from Kiltimagh, Co. Mayo. Doors open at 7.00pm with curtain up at 8.00pm. Tickets at €10 will be available on the door or from Amelia C Boutique and the Credit Union in Kinvara. This is in aid of Kinvara Twinning Association.

We, on behalf of the family and friends of Kinvara Company invite you to a Ceremony to mark the 100th Anniversary of the Easter Rising 1916 in Kinvara on Tuesday, 29th March, 2016. Guests are invited to attend all events.

In recognition of the centenary of the 1916 Rising, Kinvara Area Visual Arts (KAVA) is hosting an exhibition of work on this theme by Kinvara based artist Christopher Banahan. The show entitled ‘Saints or Sinners?’ opens on Thursday 24th March, the anniversary of the outbreak of the rebellion, continuing until Easter Monday, 28th March. It will be officially opened by the Galway Arts officer, James Harrold. Central to the exhibition are Banahan’s portraits of the seven signatories of the Proclamation. They are sketched in charcoal over a background of news articles of the era that record the events of the Rising as it unfolds, and the public reaction to it. At the outbreak of the rebellion the 1916 leaders were described in some news media as ‘outlaws’, ‘usurpers’ and ‘idealistic quacks’; within a short time, and at the price of martyrdom, they achieved the status of heroes, patriots, ‘saints’. Christopher Banahan, studied M.A. in Fine Art at London’s Goldsmiths College in 1982-4 and won a Rome Scholarship in Painting at the British School of Rome 1990. His work can be found in the collection of the Arts Council, The AIB Bank, The OPW and The European Central Bank.

The Exhibition launch is at 8pm Thursday 24th March. KAVA Exhibition Space, the Court House, Kinvara, County Galway . All Welcome.
Continuing Friday 25th to Tuesday 29th March 2016, 12 noon to 6pm each day
